He told her that PMS “is all in your head”- What the?

,

Last night, I was at the supermarket when I heard a guy telling his girlfriend that PMS was “all in your head”. Apart from wanting to yell & screen at him (and give her my card), I thought about the perception of period pain & PMS and what it means to women.

Throughout the generations we have been told to ‘suck it up’, ‘stop over reacting’ & ‘that’s just how it is for women’… have you heard any of these before? I have! But this is the information age. We don’t have to put up with the status quo.

I get asked from women all the time when they come into the clinic “is this normal?”, “can it be fixed?” and “so I’m not the only one?” No, you’re not the only one. It is normal & you don’t have to put up with it. There are so many natural things that can be done to help reverse period pain & PMS. But enough about that for now.

Imagine if our mothers & grandmothers had had the internet. They wouldn’t have had to suffer in silence & their estrogen & progesterone legacy would be different. We can change the way things happen for the next generation, so that both men & women understand that it’s not “all in our head”.

And maybe, in 10 years time, I’ll be overhearing conversations in the supermarket like ‘I didn’t even know you had your period, honey. It’s great that you took time out for yourself, I love you”.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Am I the only one that thinks this way?
