5 Steps to help STOP Candidia.

You haven’t had it in ages, and then the itch starts. It takes you back to the first time you had thrush & you remember how uncomfortable, itchy & debiliating it was:

Approx 75% of women experience candida, otherwise known as thrush at least one time in their life.

It can really affect your quality of life. Itching “up there” can be embarrassing  & the itch can be quite unbarable. It can also affect your mood, sex life &  for some women, your relationship.

So what is Candidia?

Vaginal Candida is a white discharge from the vagina that is often described as a “cottage cheese” appearance. The vagina has both “good & bad” flora just like your digestive system does. The “good flora” supports & improves your immune system, but the bad flora  are like “invaders”. They can take over & cause you havoc. Candidia is a microscopic single cell micro organism that typically lives harmlessly in people. However, if your inner ecosystem is out of balance and your immunity is weakened, you can be at risk of a fungal infection, like candida (also known as a yeast infection). An  overgrowth of “invaders” can then follow. Result: Itchy, uncomfortable, feeling terrible.

So How do we give candida the flick?

Here are the 5 steps to help you alleviate candidia & get to the bottom of it once & for all.

Step 1:

See your doctor to make sure you are dealing with candida. Candidia is white & odourless. If you are sexually active, it can be a good idea to go the doctor make sure that it is candida & nothing else nasty.

Step 2:

Review your diet. It’s important to cut out as much processed sugar as you can. Often sugar is hidden in foods. Read food labels. Anything that ends in -ose means that it is a type of sugar. It’s also good to increase lots of vegetables in your diet &  avoiding coffee, alcohol & vegemite is a good idea.

Step 3:

Increase  Calmness. Stress can exacerbate candida. Meditation, yoga or walking in nature shouldn’t be underestimated. Getting down to the beach and having time out are really important.

Step 4:

Make up a solution to relief & help give candida the flick. Sydney based naturopath Francesca Naish, talks about this wonderful douche to help get rid of candida.

  • a. Buy a vaginal syringe from your nearest pharmacy.
  • b. Mix up a solution of 1litre of warm water with 2 tablespoons of white vinegar with 4 drops of 100% tea tree oil (if the tea tree oil  is a weaker solution you can add more)
  • c. When you are in the shower, add the solution to the syringe, insert & squeeze the syringe. Use up all the solution.

This can’t be used during pregnancy or 10 weeks after birth. For further questions, please contact us at takeaction@periodpain.com.au

Step 5:

Hormone imbalances can cause a flair up of candida. Have you ever thought, “Wow, glad I got rid of the thrush”  & then POW!, it’s back again at ovulation or pre-period time? This may be to do with a hormonal imbalance. Estrogen levels can “feed” the candida & it can definately increase at those times. In a catch 22 situation, candida can release a substance that is similar to estrogen & increase false estrogens into your system.
If you’re experiencing bloating, headaches, fluid retention or teariness, anger or back ache before your period (PMS), then there may be a hormonal imbalance in your body. The best way to find out is to do a saliva hormone test & work with us to help rebalance your hormones.
