Period pain and PMS are often (but not always) caused by a hormonal imbalance). Often the imbalance between estrogen and progesterone can have an affect on moods as well as increase headaches, bloating, breast swelling and tenderness, hormonal acne, fatigue and back ache.
Higher then normal estrogen symptoms can include:
- Teariness/ Irritation/Depression
- Breast tenderness and swelling
- Bloating and fluid retention
- Period pain
Lower than normal progesterone symptoms can include:
- Period pain
- Hormonal Acne
- Fertility issues
Period pain can feel like sharp stabbing pains, an ache or feeling like your “insides are going to fall out”.
There’s a few things that your naturopath will want to uncover.
1). Is it a hormonal imbalance (or do we need to look elsewhere)?
2). If it is a hormonal imbalance, then which hormones? And then let’s rebalance them!
3). Why has the hormonal imbalance occurred?
Often we can rebalance your hormones through herbal and nutritional medicine, but the real question is why did they become unbalanced in the first place? It’s important as part of naturopathic care to establish this, otherwise your hormones may become unbalanced again.
By fixing the cause, we are helping your hormones for the long term. We aim to have you sailing through your period each and every month!
